Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. announces that several contracts have been awarded through its subsidiaries Tecnimont S.p.A., KT – Kinetics Technology S.p.A. and Stamicarbon BV for a total amount of approximately €45 million for Licensing, Technology Packages, Procurement and Engineering services. These awards, related to the core business of oil & gas, petrochemicals and fertilizers, have been granted in Europe, North and Central America and the Middle East, further consolidating the growth strategy in the higher margin and technology-driven business.
In particular, Tecnimont has been awarded an Open Book Design and Supply Cost Estimate by Ganotec Inc., a subsidiary of Kiewit. This is a phased contract preliminary to the conversion to a full EPC contract for a fertilizer plant in Canada, in partnership with such a prestigious North American construction player. The majority shareholder of the Canadian plant will be IFFCO, the largest manufacturer and distributor of chemical fertilizers in India and one of the dominant players in global fertilizer industry. IFFCO currently owns and operates five fertilizer plants in India, with a production capacity of over 8 million tonnes of fertilizers, as well as joint venture projects abroad such as Oman India Fertilizer Co. Ltd in Oman. Ganotec Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, one of North America’s largest and most respected construction contractors. Headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, Kiewit serves clients through a network of offices across the U.S. and Canada. The facility is an ammonia plant with a capacity of 2,200 MTPD based on KBR technology, a granular urea plant with a capacity of 3,850 MTPD based on Stamicarbon technology (the Group’s leading technology provider) and related Utilities and Offsites, in Bécancour Waterfront Industrial Park in Quebec, Canada. Under the terms of the contract the Group, through Tecnimont and Stamicarbon, will act as nominated Technology, Engineering and Procurement Provider for ISBL units (Ammonia, Urea, Granulation) to Ganotec Inc. who is the overall EPC preferred contractor.
Moreover, the Group reinforces its presence in the United States thanks to Stamicarbon, market leader in urea technology, which has signed a license agreement with Dakota Gasification Company for the construction of a brownfield urea melt, granulation and DEF plant in Beulah, North Dakota,USA. The urea plant and urea granulation plant will utilize Stamicarbon’s state-of-the-art technologies and will have a capacity of 1,000 MTPD each. The plants will be located on the existing Great Plains Synfuels facilities, the only commercial-scale coal gasification plant realized in USA since 1984 that manufactures synthetic natural gas.
These new awards confirm the Group’s leadership in the fertilizer business and further strengthens its presence in the North American energy market, where the shale gas boom will be driving significant investments in the downstream sector over the next decades.
